雨 过 天 青 后 的 日 落

Life

The weather in Singapore is pleasantly, interestingly capricious. For the past three, four days, it's been raining continuously, thundery showers pummeling the ground below, strong winds snapping tree branches and stirring the mortal world, howling and sending chills down my spine. The pre-dawn showers have been especially violent, and especially chilly, waking me up from my sleep.

Early this morning, as I swept away the remains of the past three days of continuous rain from the leaf-littered parade square, I couldn't help but stop and look on in relish as the sun slowly, yet quickly, rose gently from her slumber, creeping on coyly, hiding behind thin wisps of dark rainclouds leftover from the storms. As she crept up gently, the deep blue sky was slowly illuminated in brilliant rays, as the sky blazed alight in soft shades of blue, the dark blue silhouettes of the rainclouds standing out against the brilliant blue of the lightening sky.

And for the rest of the day, it was a nice change seeing the bright, cheerful hues of sunlight glistening off everything, from the dark, gloomy rainy days of what's been the rest of this week.

The evening was all the more special; as the sun set, and sank below the horizon, the entire evening sky was lit ablaze once again; the clouds were painted in brilliant hues of pink, purple and orange, as the entire blue of the sky disappeared, and was replaced by a beautiful, fluffy blanket of crimson, lines of clouds in warm colours lining the skies.

It was heaven; such sunsets are rare, just like this one on the last day of last year, as I hit off on my bicycle with my camera and tripod and zipped around the neighbourhood searching from a vantage point to snap it all from.

I do no justice to the sheer beauty of these heavenly sunrises and sunsets with my inadequate words.

---

Yet, sunrises and sunsets don't feel the same anymore; they no longer feel the same as those of many months ago. Somehow, without anyone special to look forward to sharing those magical, heavenly moments with, the magic, is no longer even half as magical.

Nonetheless, these gentle, soft sunsets are a nice change from the stark, loud sunsets of the blisteringly hot and dry months past that I wrote about just a few weeks ago; and I guess this cooling down and the growing radiance of the sunsets is a sign of better times to come, a sign of moving on.

Moving on, is good, I guess.

Hopefully good times lie ahead.
