The alarm clocks of this world must have ganged up against me today.
At 4 this morning, I was rudely awakened by the alarm clock of my bunkmate, an hour and a half before it was time to get up; not only did I get up, I snatched a glance at my alarm clock, which read 5:10. Only after I had washed up hurriedly, did I realise that I'd misread the clock.
That was not all.
This afternoon, I overslept my intended half-an-hour nap, my weak, gurgling, and sputtering alarm clock unable to arouse me from my slumber as it whispered desperately at me to get up, causing me to be nearly an hour late meeting a friend.
How wonderful. How I love alarm clocks.
Anyhow, it's been frightful, how my sleep of the past week has been terribly deep: the kind that leaves your throat and mouth dry and dehydrated when you wake up; the deep, dreamless sleep that leaves your mind completely blank, that leaves you unaware of even yourself as your senses quit sensing the world around you; the kind that even the clattering of the skies falling would not wake you up from.
It's frightful, because you awake not knowing where you are, and sometimes even who you are, and where you're from.
It's just like how sometimes you fall into a prolonged drunken stupor in life, as you stumble through your days asleep, in a slumber, unaware of your world, unaware of reality, unaware of the gravity of issues you grapple with, unaware of your actions.
Such ignorance is frightful, but even more terrifying is how those around you try, unsuccessfully, to shake you out of our trance, only to stand by helplessly as they watch you self-destruct.
And then, out of the blue, you wake up one day, and you are left dumbstruck, not knowing what had happened, or how you'd got to where you are.
It's terrifying, to lose your bearings in life.
Anyhow, change is immiment, as I pass out from the Signals Institute next week, and proceed on to my next posting. It's time for more anxiety, fear, worrying adjusting, adapting, and learning, in a brand new environment.
It's been a beautiful day, the clear, cheery blue skies and bright sunny day, a nice, welcome change from the rainy weather of the past couple of weeks. And, it's a warm night.
Goodnight.
